This week, our electrical engineers have been working at Gallacher Court, in Renfrewshire for an emergency lighting installation. Gallacher Court is sheltered accommodation, which consist of 25 flats which are managed by Renfrewshire Council.

Emergency lighting is required in buildings, such as sheltered housing, to provide light when normal lighting fails and the main power supply goes down. If the power should fail the emergency lighting will start the back-up battery and the lights will come back on, but running at about 10% output.

Our electrical engineers are also installing emergency escape lighting. Within Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) and additionally non-domestic premises it is a legal requirement to have escape lighting. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states;

‘Emergency routes and exits requiring illumination must be provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure of their normal lighting’,

We have a great deal of experience when it comes to this type of job, as we have been working with housing associations for 17 years.

Our first housing association contract was awarded to us on the 21st of June 2000, and we have seen these types of contracts grow since. Our housing associations contracts account for 25% of Magnus Electrical Services turnover.
